Meet the Master: Dave Cook
Owner-operator has over 51 years experience in the various phases of the automotive industry. From the humble beginnings in a small company-owned auto mechanic shop at the tender age of 15, Dave has progressively added to his skills over the years in a never ending quest for automotive excellence. While working full-time as a mechanic, Dave became intrigued by the auto-body repair industry and convinced a body shop owner to hire him as a “journeyman” painter. Within a year Dave opened his own custom paint shop , eventually succeeding in being awarded 1st place trophies in several categories. Expanding his skills even further, he soon progressed to heavy collision and frame repair. In those days it was necessary for a”journeyman” to be considered a combination tech. You had to be skilled in repairs from start to finish. Add several years traveling up and down the West Coast attending car shows doing hand-painted pinstriping, appearing in several national magazines, newspapers, and television reports. All that was left was the interior. Observing what is available, it quickly became obvious that old-time craftsmen were going the way of the dinosaur. It seems that “good enough” is almost the standard. It was a natural fit for Dave to expand his skills into the upholstery industry. All this experience, and more, has culminated in Dave’s ability to provide the finest auto upholstery available today, whether it be restoration, repair, convertible top construction and/or installation, or the most sophisticated custom interiors.
